President Message December 2009

| |

We are coming to the end of another athletic year, a year that has provided its share of excellent achievements, with however, some lingering disappointments. Nevertheless, we continue to see tremendous improvement in the performances of athletes from some of the smaller Federations. Special congratulations are in order for those member Federations who successfully hosted events in 2009, the level of preparation and organization provided was outstanding.

Despite the worldwide contraction of available financial funding, the sport of Track and Field Athletics within our region did not suffer greatly. This I am sure is due in large part to the personal efforts of our leaders who were able to assure potential sponsors of the importance of continuing their support of our sport. I must however advise all that there will be a major contraction of financial support from the IAAF for regional competitions during 2010. I am not daunted however, as I intend to fill the gap with regional sponsorship support.

During the year there were some changes in administrative leadership within our area. I wish to place on record my sincere thanks to all returning leaders who have given their time, wisdom and in many instances their personal financial support to assist athletic development in our area and extend the hand of welcome to all new personnel who have been elected to serve.

As 2009 draws to a close please remember to give some thought to the preparation of your annual report.

I wish for everyone a most enjoyable and restful holiday season and look forward to continuing the good work started by many in 2010.
